Indoor Team find it tough going against top class opposition.

South came into the game knowing that a good performance could bring a positive result but Wild Oats applied plenty of early pressure and went 1-0 up through a penalty flick as a goal bound shot from Sean Anderson found Rich Morgan in it's path on the line. Steve Parker went the right way but Ely City 1sts player Joel Gilmour's flick flew just above him as he dived to his right.

As half time approached, South did have their chances, the best coming from a pass into the D from Jim Thorpe that James Cobbe defelected just wide of the post. Chris Massey worked tirelessly in the centre and a few of his runs were brought to a premature end as he entered the D. Sadly South's short corners did not have the same bite as those that Wild Oats had up their sleeve.

By half time the score was 2-0 as Joel Gilmour and Ipswich 1st XI striker Sean Gilmour combined to create the easiest of tap-ins at the far post for Ely youngster Euan Gilmour to score.

Though South talked confidently of getting higher up the pitch and stretching the play wide in the second half, that did not really happen, in spite of a fine piece of opportunism by Paul South, reducing the deficit by tucking the ball past the oncoming keeper after a bit of pinball hockey in the D.

South began to leak short corners and were being punished. Gilmour (J) struck the crossbar and two more shot past Morgan on the far post with great accuracy. In all honesty the second half display lacked penetration and despite facing some tough opposition in the last two outings, South are going to have to step up a gear if last seasons achievements are to be repeated.
