Ladies' 1sts are Champions! They beat Market Deeping 2 by 3 goals to 0.

The final game of the league season saw South travelling to Peterborough to play Market Deeping . Whilst South needed a win to guarantee promotion as champions, Market Deeping were fighting to avoid relegation. With half the team at the wrong pitch and the other half discovering Astroturf sun bathing, preparations for the game were perhaps more relaxed than usual but South soon got into a few drills to shake off the sunshine-induced lethargy. South were strong from the off, regaining possession from the push back to put pressure on a resilient Deeping defence. The penalty corner practice on Tuesday was evident as Hayley and George exchanged gloves. A straight strike to the right post saw Tash poke the ball in (much to Alice's dislike - 1 goal in it now I think). All the pressure was from South, with Loopy not having a kick in the first half. South were rewarded with multiple penalty corners and Alice had a great shot, flying into the roof of the net, saved by the keeper. The sustained pressure resulted in a Deeping defender stopping the ball cross the line with her foot. Penalty flick. Luckily Alice and Hayley had been practicing in the warm up. Hayley stepped up and placed it low into the left corner. In the dying seconds of the first half South were again rewarded with a penalty corner, this time a straight strike from Hayley deflected into the bottom right corner off a defender's foot. 3-0 up at half time.

The sun beat down and players were getting tired. South worked the ball well with the midfield linking up with one-twos around the defence. Alice came close to adding to her tally on a number of occasions but it wasn't to be her day as the one that crossed the line was disallowed for back-stick.

Liles was tenacious in defence giving the Deeping midfield little time on the ball, with Kirsten picking up the loose balls on the left and driving at the Deeping defence. Deeping had a breakway attack but Loopy and the defence were there to ensure we did not concede. A solid performance hampered by the sweltering conditions and the excellent effort from the Deeping back line. Liles won man of the match for battling back to win the ball and her driving runs down the right. Also, great effort from Vicky who wasn't expecting a full game! Nice one. Fabs (the lolly) were deserved all round. On to the final to win the second piece of silverware of the season.
