Second Again

John Greaves

We came,

We tried,

We got beaten by a superior March Town side.

In spite of the Herculean efforts of El Sid and the Rock, a.k.a. James Siddorns and Alan Radford, as always magnificent at the centre of defence.

March scored two goals from home lapses, one with a lucky bounce over the typically impressive keeper Shahzad Ali and another one with a brilliant reverse stick thunderbolt.

And Cambridge South only got one by the increasingly reliable Shahbaz Ali from a goalmouth scramble, who thus confirmed his position as the teams leading scorer for the season, in spite of breaking his favourite stick in the warm up.

Man of the Match Stu Creed never stopped tackling, and driving forward in attack.

We had numerous good phases of passing, particularly capitalising on the pace of wingman Owen Vaughan, but it wasnt enough. Boris Lossy, Rupert Espley, and skipper Greaves had their moments, but couldn't add to the home tally.

The whole team played their part, harrying, running, and encouraging one another to a creditable performance once again.

A much improved second half of the season has meant mostly closely fought games but narrow losses don't score points, making relegation look likely.

Cantabs post-match food was good.

A thorn in the side of the opposition throughout.
