The Late, Late Show starring Eimear Lee

Jan Brynjolffssen

Right, so in the absence of a report from the team on this derby victory, let’s have an umpire’s eye view.

The match started off fairly even, with Nomads possibly shading the possession and territory, but South looking the more likely to score, especially when Florence had the ball on her stick. She was involved in the swift counter that did edge South ahead midway through the first half, the ball finding it's way to Iona at the top of the circle, whose shot found its way home via a Nomad’s defender’s foot.

Nomads equalised less than thirty seconds into the second-half as their right winger was allowed to drive into the D unopposed. She looked like she had a lot to do as the angle was narrow, but gave South goalie Emma no chance with a wonder goal that flew into the roof of the net.

South were getting the upper hand as time wore down, albeit without forcing too many clear-cut opportunities. They were on the attack in the last minute, but the final chance appeared to have gone when a free-hit was given away with 15 seconds to play. However Nomads attempt to hit this clear was intercepted and the ball was passed to Eimear in the Nomads D, with the ‘keeper out of position. She kept her cool to push the ball home. Three seconds later my watch ticked round to 35:00...
