A hard-fought away win made it five matches undefeated for South Vets. Phil Smith struck one sweetly in his stride to open the scoring against the run of play. Plenty of midfield harrying and solid defending kept the opposition at bay, preserving the one-nil lead until Richard Bettison shaped a big strike towards the far post from wide-right of the D, the keeper went to ground at full stretch, and Richard struck a complete miscue which trickled in by the near post with the keeper a stranded whale. Heads went down amongst the tiring opposition and strong running to the end made South the more likely to score again. An economical victory without a single South short corner.
