M2 3-3 Boston Mens 2

The game against Boston was an epic.

South travelled with eleven, Boston had men to spare and placed neatly below in the table, separated only by goal difference.

South started confidently with some excellent attacking play driven by a resurgent Greaves and a determined Adlington on the left, having his best game for the 2nds. The opener came after five minutes from from an unlikely source, Rob Barton sweeping home a good overlap ball from the returning Korstanje into the net from a short corner. Lockhart was a strong driving presence alongside the commanding Korstanje. The superb Black, was everywhere, stemming countless attacks and driving forward and re-uniting his solid partnership with Sutcliffe. Waller, playing in yet another alien position, excelled as a makeshift right back. South gave a debut to Johnson, again out of position, who was encouraging but not match fit.

Boston equalised with a scrappy effort and then progressed to take the lead with another scrappy effort. Fortunately South were not undone and bundled in an equaliser through Barton to end the half level and Barton feeling near his thirties. A constructive team talk and a slight reshuffle allowed Barton and Adlington to link up well and overwhelm the opposition. Lewis was hacked down by some over-enthusiastic defending on the edge of the D. The resulting free hit, a rasping Korstanje effort, entered the area and was propelled towards the goal by Lewis, temporarily putting his tantrums to one side. The attentive Greaves was there to snuffle up his third league goal of the season from four inches. Boston tried in vain to breach the Poole goal and managed only at the death from a short-corner, surely the scrappiest of them all.

Man of the Match has to go to a defender for a very strong defensive and attacking display, cue Black.
