CSHC Mixed (A Team) v Nomads and CSHC Leftovers

Colin T

Today The Long Road trampoline (called this because the astro is so bouncy) hosted the CSHC Mixed A team (Sophie’s pick of those wanting to play), who were playing the CSHC Mixed B team (Soph's left overs, including me and Coming-Out-of-Retirement-For-One-Last-Match-But-What’s-This?-I’ve-Been-Put-on-the-Nomads-Team Tim) with some guests from Cambridge Nomads.

It was a beautifully sunny morning but perhaps a little too sunny, as it became evident that the sun made it impossible to tell the difference between blue and purple shirts. Janet/Ginette/Jannette (whatever it is) informed me whilst on the sidelines that one team should wear some bibs, so that we could tell the teams apart. I thanked her for this idea but fobbed her off with, “I shall note your comments and maybe consider it at half time.” However, having entered the field of play it was immediately obvious that her idea wasn't a bad one after all and Jack was dispatched to source the orange bibs.

The Nomads/CSHC B team collaboration took a battering in the first half (much like our metal shed appears to have received of late) with Pearson, Hollidge and Sophie (I’m sure all in attendance for the primary purpose of upping their season’s goal tallies) all hitting the back of the net (that board bit at the bottom, something that I have not hit in a long, long time). I recall Pearson missing an open goal, which was the highlight of the first half for me.

Some other things happened such as Lou having her shot saved off the line by Ali (MoM and described as the ‘midfield motor’ with ‘cheeky runs up the pitch’ - whatever 'cheeky' looks like. My favourite description was that he ‘played ok’, which seems to be all that is needed to earn MoM nowadays) and Dave Spence (aka C-Bomb) having a go at the umpire right in front of the umpire’s parents. It was these same parents (the Steeds) that caused me to miss fifteen minutes of the first half whilst we had a discussion about CSI Miami (series 10 episode 13, where a skydiver is killed when his parachute is sabotaged to be precise).

Nev arrived late (which I am actually grateful for, as he saved me from winning LoM)

The team talk at half time was not very inspiring to be honest, as it was mainly spent asking what people’s names were again and arguing with Lou Cantwell, who had tricked me into letting her play up front when in fact she is a defender.

The second half was a bit more even and was actually won by Nomads, two-one. Highlights were Kim hitting herself in the face, Wizard’s 'great running', Janet/Ginette/Jannette's (whatever it is) 'sensational play' (as described in a MoM vote) and #solid Rossellini (also as described in a MoM vote).

The Nomads' goalie (I’ve forgotten his name having been told three times today, but it might be Ethan) got his money’s worth and made some good saves. Jason up the other end did not have the same intense workout.

These are my favourite votes;
