Men's 3rds lose to Bourne 5

Cambridge South 3rds, sponsored by PwC, succumbed to their first defeat of the season away to Bourne.

In what was very much a game of two halves, South dominated the opening period, applying strong pressure and keeping Bourne back in their own half for long periods. After winning a succession of short corners, and several fine saves by the Bourne keeper, South were unlucky to have a goal ruled out when Wilco Dijkstra's touch on a goal-bound shot from outside the D went unnoticed.

Continued South pressure paid off though, with Wilco hitting home a close range shot to give South a 1-0 lead at half time.

The second half was a different story, as several Bourne players doubling up from their 2nd team took control of the game and South were put under heavy pressure from the hit-off.

After resisting valiantly for most of the half, South finally conceded when a shot from the edge of the D was touched home by a Bourne forward. Bourne's star players then turned on the style and they took the lead with a slick lifted flick from a short corner routine, before adding a late third goal with a fierce drive on the run past the South keeper.
