Men's 2nds draw with Peterborough Athletic 3

Cambridge South 2nds, sponsored by PwC, needed a result from this game against an improved Peterborough Athletic. Both teams had their chances, with John Greaves unlucky to come up against an extremely large, and competent, goalkeeper with a couple of goalbound efforts and Mark Jackson having an excellent goal disallowed for an earlier infringement by a teammate.

South's attacking options were reduced midway through the first half when a solid Andy Bleach hit found Andy Lewis's foot: the foot lost. Bleach redeemed himself when he made a glorious last ditch sliding save on the goal line with no regard for his own safety shortly after.

In the second half, South played into the strong wind and enjoyed many good moves, notably from the central midfield combination of Eliot Reed and Suk Pannu and some spectacular solo runs from Tim Waller, Mark Jackson and Tristen Knight. The South short corner routines worked well, each one resulting in a good shot, but sadly no goals.

The away defence were solid throughout, rarely giving Peterborough the chance to shoot, and repelling a number of their short corners. When he had to, keeper Lino Di Lorenzo did the business, particularly with one flying top corner save and another dash out to the edge of the D to extinguish the danger from an on-rushing forward. Everyone played their part in a deserved draw, and the sausages and chips were good afterwards.
