Men's 4ths narrowly beat Bourne 4

The Cambridge South 4th team, sponsored by PwC, eventually worked out who would start in which position after at least 5 attempts from the captain to ascertain what he was trying to do. This was largely due to James Raikes not being able to read his own spelling in the team sheet!

Bourne arrived in Cambridge with a young and skilful side and that was evident from the large amount of possession they had [Editors note – they had also arrived as League leaders, but I felt it was better not to mention that to you guys during the match!]. But (I was told these days you can start a sentence with 'But') despite dominating the play, Bourne did not create many clear-cut chances and it was CSHC who had the better opportunities on the counter-attack. About 20 minutes into the game, one such break was orchestrated by James Pope who found Alex Scally to the right of the Bourne goal with a sublimely weighted and accurate pass. Alex did the pass justice by taking it inside the 'keeper and scoring with a slick reverse stick shot. CSHC's confidence grew and had more possession as the half wore on, but did not produce any more goals. HT 1-0.

The second half was a similar pattern as Bourne pushed forward to try to get an equaliser. Bourne attacked mainly down their right, but David Bridge somehow always managed to disrupt their play and kept them at bay. CSHC found lots of space on the break and Alex could easily have had a second and James R also had a good shot that went narrowly wide. It was a well fought, narrow win cheered on by Vicky Lavis who made so much noise that it felt like we had the whole club there supporting us! (journalistic licence). It was good to see 5 'young uns' in the team who all played their part in the win.
