Rutland 3rds are the strongest of the three teams that Rutland has in Div 7NW. With a strong line-up, South edged the midfield but without creating too many clear chances early in the first half. However, Rutland did have their goalkeeper to thank for keeping out two or three chances. At the other end, Rutland scored from a break away attack.

The goal galvanised South's team spirit and the defensive work got more disciplined. Rutland won numerous short corners but did not score from any of them. South equalised through a well worked move from the right, which ended with Leo squaring to David Bridge who finished in an assured manner by hitting the ball to the keeper's left.

In the second half, South were more dominant and really went for the win. However, this only served to open up spaces for Rutland to exploit and they finally scored from one of the numerous short corners. They got a second immediate afterwards from a breakaway run. South continued to press, but a combination of good goal keeping and poor finishing meant the match finished without further score.
