Ladies' 1sts lose to Sawtry 1

South had high hopes for this match but some last minute injuries and dreadful traffic jams on the way to Peterborough meant that all their plans went awry. Still two players down with 10 of their extra 15 minutes used up, South were forced to start with only ten players for the first couple of minutes.

Not surprisingly, South were a little bit disorganized and were unlucky that Sawtry started fiercely and went 2-0 up very quickly. The first goal came from a short corner and the second from some good attacking play.

After this initial shock, South regrouped and put some good play together for the rest of the first half. Centre forward Kate Nustedt was unlucky not to score with a great shot just before half time.

The second half also started well for South and only several excellent saves from the Sawtry keeper kept the South forwards at bay. Then a break away by Sawtry saw South concede a penalty flick in order to prevent a goal. Keeper Cassie Ragnauth made an excellent save to keep the score at 2-0.

Unfortunately, that was the end of the good news for South. As they began to tire, Sawtry scored two more breakaway goals to make the final result 4-0. All in all this was an unlucky match. The result did not reflect the periods of play when South put some good moves together and they will certainly be looking to exact revenge in the return match next year.
