Ladies' 1sts beat Huntingdon 1

Cambridge South's first game of 2006 was away against Huntington 2nds.

The game started great for South with plenty of possession and neat passing. It wasn't long before South scored. It was a great goal from the left by Emma, sweeping the ball with power across the goal. This lead quickly doubled as Tash Cox had the ball in the D and pulled of a splendid reverse stick goal, again going in the bottom right corner.

Although already 2-0 up, South didn't sit back and kept pushing for another goal. Becca passed a clever and accurate ball across half the pitch to Emma, who was making a long forwards run. She swept the ball across to Jo Read, who was running into the D and managed to find the back of the net.

The first half was not over yet though and Cassie had pulled off some fine saves to keep Huntington from scoring earlier in the game. Unfortunately South did concede a goal late in the first half, leaving the score 1-3 in South's favour at half time.

The second half began like the first with great link up play between the midfield. South's fourth goal came as Gemma won the ball in attack and threaded a quick ball through to Tash who got her second goal of the game, flicking the ball around the keeper.

Huntington fought back in the last ten minutes, but with Becca, Elena and Julie making very important tackles in defence and Cassie being in top form in goal they found it impossible to break through.

It was a great start to the year!
