Men's 3rds take one point from the match against St Ives 4

A hard fought game with CSouth providing most of the pressure, goal chances, and headless chicken hockey. It ended in a draw with both goals in the first half. St Ives got the first against the run of play as the home team failed to tackle one attacker after another, but CSouth equalised before half time. Skipper John Greaves pounced the ball and hit an unstoppable shot in from range and from a narrow angle.

Numerous other chances were fluffed, or else the final pass whizzed tantalisingly away from waiting sticks, which gave St Ives confidence to start bossing the midfield and calmly raise their game. This led to some panicky but effective defending and the usual quota of awesome Shabhaz saves. Unfortunately apart from some great runs by Tom South from right back, and a few neat interplays amongst the midfield and forwards, CSouth were unable to regain control.

The game could have been won in the final seconds as Rupert Espley narrowly failed to get to a ball moving painfully slowly inches from the line. This encapsulated a day when the greater individual talents of the CSouth team, which on another occasion could have produced a hatful of goals and subsequent morale boost, was matched by superior teamwork.

The chefs at the Corner House, who produced a magnificent post match tea of baked potatoes, rice, chilli, cheese, onion rings, souces, with plenty for all, for a very reasonable £40.. And it was ready for us as we arrived. And the IPA was good too
