Men's 2nds draw with St Neots 3

The first league game of the season was a scrappy affair ending in a deserved draw. St Neots had more chances but Cambridge South struck first, as the excellent Creed followed up from a well worked Greaves/Korstanje short corner with some nifty stickwork ending in a reverse stick effort into the corner of the net. The corner itself came from one of the few good moves, and involved Adlington blasting past two defenders to release Waller, whose shot was just kept out.

St Neots equalised soon after when the away defence failed to clear from the resurgent home attack, leaving them to score from close range. The South defence therafter withstood many St Neots raids with sometimes desperate defence, but Man of the Match Mark Jackson at centre back was consistently effective in tackling and then distributing well.

It was only late on in the second half that Cambridge South attacked with more purpose usually prompted by the masterful Vincent Korstanje and lively Andy Lewis, but sadly failed to capitalise and rarely got in a shot after getting to the D.

The end result was a fair one against one of the better teams in the division, and the teamwork will improve as positions become settled and players get to know one another's styles.
