Men's 2nds draw with Bourne 4

An even first half saw Bourne grabbing two breakaway goals, one from an unstoppable hit into the top of the net from their star no. 15 and the other tapped in from close in following from some dodgy marking. Otherwise the away defence stood firm with keeper Will Benedikz putting in some good saves and the back line playing with discipline.

In spite of good attacking moves, with skilful overlapping runners and some good crosses from returning skipper John Greaves on the right, South were unable to score before the interval.

All seemed lost when a penalty flick was conceded but Benedikz made amends by saving it brilliantly. This inspired the away team to attack with gusto and they were rewarded as Dan Adlington exchanged passes with Tom Bellis, ending in a terrific Adlington shot from a wide angle to pull a goal back. Thereafter South had most of the posession as they sought the equaliser. Stuart Creed was unlucky to shoot just wide from a short corner but soon after another well worked short corner routine gave Greaves the chance to slot the ball into the net behind the keeper at the near post from Creed's cross.

2-2 was a fair result, and encouraging for Cambridge South, who got back into the game after going two behind early on, through great commitment, with all the team playing their part well, and maintaining shape throughout. Men of the match were the centre midfield pairing of Creed and Korstanje, who are proving to be the hub of the team this season, controlling the game and launching many of our best moves.
