Getting Better…

Laura Edge

I thought I was getting to grips with being captain - my cupboards are stocked with jelly babies, I've acquired enough team sheets to last until April 2017 (thanks, Coops) and seem to have more balls in my kit bag from other clubs than from CSHC. Unfortunately, this week I managed to make the same rookie error that I have already made once this year.

A few weeks ago, Ali and I carefully looked through all of the keepers kits and, after much deliberation, selected a lovely blue kit that looked vaguely familiar…it turned out that I had indeed seen that kit a number of times…on Loopy. I now determined to become a kit expert and was pretty sure that I knew all of the ladies' kits in the shed. However, come this weekend Hannah and I had the same problem once more. We resembled a drugs bust in Customs, with bags open wide and contents on show. However, despite help from Jack and a desperate call to Liz and Anouschka, I was starting to feel that surely we couldn't have made too bad a choice. On handing over the goalie bag it became apparent that that wasn't the case.

Despite the rather large pads, Anouschka made some outstanding saves which earned a second place in the man of the match vote.

The team took the first twenty to twenty-five minutes to settle into the game, having a number of people playing for us for the first time. This unsettled period allowed Haverhill a number of strong attacks and a few early goals. Coming up to half time, we were just starting to capitalise on the strengths of our team members and began to get some breaks.

Halftime allowed a further team chat and a chance to have a little shuffle around. The second half was much stronger, with a number of attempts in the Haverhill D and much more fluid play, with some great runs and passing and a more solid defence now that they had a chance to have a break between oppostion attacks.

A great step forward from the fourteen-nil scoreline the last time we played this team. We are definitely getting better (even if my keeping kit recognition is not!).

Great movement in midfield and perfect passes.

Wrong GK kit again.

Helping to convince me I had selected the right kit, even though the one I had was for a man.
