Div 2 Here We Come!

Lou Cantwell

The L1s made history this week, with three points guaranteeing a promotion place and entry into the dizzy heights of Div 2. South put in a strong performance, putting thirteen goals past Newmarket and playing some fast-paced and rapid passing hockey. We knew all we needed for promotion was a win, and the all-round team performance the girls put in to achieve it was outstanding.

There were some fantastic performances across the pitch, with our dynamic midfield combinations of Hannah, Kim, Amalia, Emma-Rose, and Georgie working tirelessly all afternoon in the attacking third, with Kim adding two more to her sky-high goal tally and Amalia scoring a reversestick strike that is fast becoming her trademark move. It was fantastic to have Heather back from her holiday on the slopes and she gave us back structure back in midfield which we have missed the last couple of weeks, as well as scoring a sweet strike from the top of the D.

Up front, the goal tallies of our forwards speak for themselves, with Soph bagging four, Izzy's hat-trick winning her MOM and Ellie finding the backboard twice, while the defensive four of Roisin, Mel, Lou and Loopy shut down the Newmarket breaks efficiently and supported the waves of attack by defending higher than we probably ever have. Awesome performance all-round, with fantastic performances from a group of youngsters who are the next generation for the L1s going forward. One more win is all we need to clinch the top spot and hopefully see more celebrations like this week's!

The day's events were summed up nicely for our squad members off in far-flung places or otherwise engaged by the never-over-excited Georgie:

Jumping over a ball on the post rather than tapping it in :)

Subbing herself back on to the pitch at centre forward after two minutes off, completely against the subs plan…

Not scoring a goal.
