A Trip to Sharnbrook

Lucy Bedford

Location: Not Huntingdon, or Kimbolton, but somewhere deep in the depths of the Bedfordshire countryside. By the by, the route was fairly picturesque, with “people” dressed as creepy statues and “grim” villages where Hannah would not want to vacate.

Weather: Tropical.

Game: The mix of humidity and a sandy pitch meant the L2s' thought they were on a jolly holiday for the first half of the game. No goals were scored, but we were left very red faced (I speak for myself) and frustrated…especially after we had beaten this team quite triumphantly at home. Jelly babies were required.

Early in to the second half, Huntingdon gained a short corner and a confused 'collision' in defence lead to a straight shot at goal to score. This either sent a rocket up our bottoms or the JB sugar kicked in because we countered and within two minutes Kendra had popped one in the back of their net.

Katherine, Kath, Cath and Huntingdon's Katherine were all on high alert as new nicknames were bellowed across the pitch. Some fast paced attacking from 'new' Katherine and Hazel lead to numerous short corners gained for South and within ten minutes Kendra had scored another fantastic goal. We put pressure on Huntingdon's key players and some strong passing as a team kept us in possession for the majority of the second half.

A counter and breakthrough from Huntingdon's quick forward led to what can only be described as a kerfuffle in the D – a very badly timed slip from myself (still blaming the sand) leading to a cheeky goal from Huntingdon. Sorry, Emma, for literally laying at your feet and making us both useless. Lemon vote well deserved.

'New' Katherine had a fabulous debut for the L2s, with consistent strong play throughout and some superb crosses into the D. Hazel was unstoppable and this led to her scoring a beautiful goal and sending the L2s into the lead in the nick of time.

Taking a cheeky lie down in the D during a short (aka knocked over by Serin).
