Men's 2nds beat Peterborough Athletic 3

Cambridge South consolidated their position near the top of the league, equal on points with the leaders, with a good win against a physical Peterborough Athletic side.

The home team played well from the start, with varied attacking moves using the width of the pitch and Stuart Creed driving forward from central midfield. The opening goal came from the old Greaves-Lewis short corner routine, as Andy Lewis shot in unstoppably from the edge of the D. Peterborough Athletic responded towards half time and scrambled an equaliser through a goalmouth melee.

South, as is increasingly the case, refused to give in, and retook the lead as Creed battled through some hairy tackles and, instead of waiting for the foul, just fought his way towards goal and after a couple of efforts, shot from close in.

The dynamic(ish) duo struck again as Lewis once more connected with a Greaves short corner to double the lead, as South kept up their attacking approach. Peterborough then came back strongly, getting their second goal from a clean short corner routine. They camped in the home twenty-five for most of the last ten minutes, but the reshaped defence stood firm and South held out for victory.
