Men's 1sts lose toTring 1

Cambridge South, proudly sponsored by PwC, were knocked out of the National Vase by a well-drilled and skilful Tring side, at the Perse Boys School on Sunday.

The away side were coached from the sidelines and displayed very good organisation and passing, and were able to keep the ball for long periods. Cambridge fought hard and nearly scored when Rob Garrett raced through onto Mark Taylor's pass behind the defence but he couldn't find the target after the keeper pushed him wide. Before this, Tring had scored a couple of good goals, one a flick to the top of the goal from a short corner.

The second half continued in the same manner as the first, and although Cambridge were able to enjoy more possession and threatened the Tring goal more often, they struggled to match the away side's passing and movement.

Captain Chris Baker was disappointed to be knocked out of the cup, but acknowledged that Tring were the better side, saying "Tring showed themselves to be an extremely well organised and disciplined team, who had a number of skilful players in midfield and upfront. We fought hard to make it competitive, but overall they proved too strong for us and we can have few complaints about the result."
