Men's 1sts draw with Rutland 1

Cambridge South, proudly sponsored by PwC, twice battled from behind to earn a point against fellow mid-table side Rutland. The home side were hit with two injuries, as striker Rob Garrett came off early and midfielder Mike Thorogood mid-way through the first half.

Rutland started brighter and more confidently, but it was the home side that netted first, captain Chris Baker coolly finishing after beating two defenders. But Rutland made their pressure count with a couple of goals midway through the half. South hit back before the break, with Finn Johnson grabbing a goal at the far post after good work by Russell Johnson.

The second half was more comfortable for the home side as they were able to contain Rutland and keep possession better. They struggled to penetrate the away-side's defence, and it was Rutland that scored next with a quick break-away goal. South upped the tempo in their attempt to get back into the game, but didn't look like scoring until Russell Johnson exchanged passes with Lukas Snetler on the right, drove into the D and pulled the ball back for Rupert Webb to score.

A yellow card late on for Eliot Reed invited Rutland to attack and it was a nail biting finish for the home side but no more goals came and it finished 3-3.
