Ladies' 1sts beat Cambridge Ladies 2

At 9.30 am it was doubtful that this fixture would go ahead due to a frozen pitch, but over the next forty-five minutes the sun came out and the green of the astro reappeared.

However, South weren't their usual enthusiastic selves as the match got underway. But nevertheless much of the first half was spent in the Cambridge Ladies' half of the pitch. Hayley opened the scoring after weaving past several defenders along the backline and slotting the ball between the keeper and the near post.

South had many opportunities to add to their tally but were unable to deflect the long balls into the D goalwards. The defence remained strong, keeping the Cambridge Ladies attackers away from the goal and took a 1-0 lead into the second half. Jo R's determination and running down the right wing saw her rewarded with man of the match (the only thing that outshone her performance on the pitch was her performance in the car park - a parallel park followed by an inch perfect reverse bay park at the pub).

South battled hard during the second half and looked more like themselves, and a second goal was scored when Jo C converted a long cross into the D. It looked like Loopy was going to keep her second clean sheet of the year, but Cambridge Ladies scored a short corner in the dying seconds of the game.

This win takes South to second in the league. With three games remaining could the impossible happen?
