Ladies' 1sts beat March Town 2

Cambridge South Ladies, sponsored by PwC, travelled to March on this grey Saturday afternoon for an unsociably late push back (particularly as it meant we would miss the start of the South Halloween pub crawl!). In a very open game South were able to dominate and had many scoring opportunities missed. Loopy in goal was not challenged once by the March attack as Bek, Louisa, Julie and Ellie kept them at bay.

The game began slowly with South not having to play their usual game to create a plethora of chances. A break from midfield saw a lay off to Liles, and a finish by Caroline to give South the lead. Caroline was there again to put us 2-0 in front.

By now it was starting to click for Cambridge, who were enjoying the majority of possession. The March goalkeeper and committed sweeper ensured that it was not a whitewash, but finally Gemma used some fancy stick work to bewilder the defence and slot in a third before half time.

The feeling at half time was that we needed to raise our game and really take control. We also welcomed onto the pitch 1st team debutant Ellie Herbert who provided speed and intelligent passing. Some slick play down the right hand side resulted in a cross met by Emma at the near post who deftly touch ed the ball past the keeper. A really well worked goal.

South were now in control playing some great hockey and creating dozens of chances. Gemma grabbed the final goal of the game, giving South a convincing scoreline. I must give credit to the March goalkeeper and sweeper who kept the score down, and indeed credit to our front line who created so many opportunities. A comprehensive victory for South and mashed potato for teas.

Outstanding work from Caroline was rewarded with a unanimous vote for lady of the match. Well done everyone again!
