Ladies' 2nds narrowly lose to Huntingdon 2

An early start this Saturday saw another close game for the Ladies 2nd team, away against Huntingdon 2nds. South battled well throughout but lost 3-2…with both goals being scored in true pumpkin style !

Despite South being the stronger team in the first half, Huntingdon scored the initial goal. This was soon equalised with a strike from the first pumpkin, Bex. Great passing and support was shown between the midfields and forwards, with all players making good use of space.

Becca (man of the match) was flying around the pitch…like batman (!) and she made lots of excellent hit outs. Jodee, Louise and Pip were strong in defence – continuously tackling the opposition.

Becca coming forwards for short corners proved to be successful and helped towards a short corner goal from the 2nd pumpkin, Mel (and her new hockey stick!) – putting South into the lead 2-1. Just before half-time Huntingdon scored…2 all.

The opposition clearly had a very motivating half-time chat and picked up their game in the 2nd half where they really closed down on us. The match generally became slightly mad and hectic! However, good play from Anne-Isabelle, Vicky and Cat as well as determination from new-comer Chloe kept the game reasonably equal. Despite a lot of excellent saves by goalie Lou and more attempts from South on goal, Huntingdon scored in the 2nd half putting them in the lead at the final whistle…3-2.
